I was toasting a tortilla a few hours ago in my toaster oven. I was busy with something waiting for the timer bell to ring when I smelled burning, then noticed smoke filling up the kitchen. The toaster oven was engulfed in flames and panicked that it had become too large and out of control. I tried but couldn’t remember what I was supposed to do and NOT do from a fire safety video I had watched several times in the past. I unplugged the oven, and grabbed a large pot lid hoping to snuff out the fire although the fire was much larger than the lid. It was working because I was covering the source of the fire, the tortilla. This could have gone either way tonight and become a tragedy, possibly with loss of lives.
I found the video. You’ve probably seen it before, it made the rounds quite a few times. I thought I’d remember what it said, there wasn’t much to it really. In a panic situation, you may not remember. I didn’t. Watch the video again, bookmark it, put it in your calendar to watch every 3 months or so. I was lucky, but you might not be.
